The other day I was lucky enough to get my eyebrows done by and hang out with the awesome Natalie Gioscio at her new business Natalie Marie Beauty in West Hartford (link here). First of all, this place has some serious perks, especially compared to many of the spas in West Hartford. The perks include free parking in a LOT, a Groupon deal for facials, and extremely flexible appointments (read- Natalie books appointments around your schedule, not the other way around).
Even though you may not see her spa from Main Street, once you walk in you immediately realize you’re in a very upscale boutique spa.
Second, and more importantly, Natalie is amazing. She is super easy to talk to, a really fun person, and she definitely knows her stuff when it comes to her business. Her excitement and passion about the services she provides are clearly why she is able to own her own successful spa before she’s even close to turning 30. One thing that I especially liked about Natalie is that she does not try to sell you on any crazy expensive products like most estheticians in the area do. Did I mention that Natalie also gave me hope that my once-ruined eyebrows may one day look like hers? (fingers crossed)
After she fixed my eyebrows and gave me a serum to take home to help them grow in, I got to spend some time chatting with Natalie and getting to know her.
- How did you decide to become an esthetician?
Natalie started school for teaching because she had always wanted to be a teacher. Once she realized teaching may not be for her, she changed to IIC (International Institute of Cosmetology) in Wethersfield, CT. Natalie has always been interested in skincare and beauty, and her family was fully in support of the switch. After completing IIC and beginning to practice, Natalie went to Laser school to expand the list of services she is able to provide to include laser treatments.
2. What made you want to open your own business?
Once becoming an esthetician, Natalie was quickly entrusted with all of the responsibilities of being a business owner. She gained experience to from her previous job that gave her the confidence to go out on her own. Plus, she always wanted to. Natalie has never wanted to work for someone else!
3. Why did you choose WeHa?
Natalie loves West Hartford. She has great clients, and loves West Hartford Center because of all of the incredible restaurants, bars, and shopping. Plus the center drives lots of foot traffic which is great for starting a business on your own.
4. What do you love about the community here?
Natalie loves her clients. Since starting out in West Hartford she has not had a bad experience with a client. Some clients even brought her flowers to congratulate her on opening her own business!
5. What is your favorite service to do and why?
Her favorite service to do is facials because they are relaxing for the client, so she is relaxed herself when performing them.
6. What is your most popular service so far?
It is probably a tie between eyebrow waxing/styling and facials.
7. Do you live in WeHa?
No. Natalie lives very close by in Meriden.
8. What is the best part of owning a business so far?
Natalie’s favorite part of owning a business so far is picking her own hours, being able to accommodate clients hectic schedules whenever she can, and decorating the place exactly how she wants it. Clearly she has a hidden talent, the space is so upscale-chic!
9. What do you do in your free time?
In the summer Natalie is a total beach girl and loves going to the beach. Otherwise she loves to check out new restaurants, especially in West Hartford Center. She also loves to keep up to date with new skincare treatments and is regularly found at Barnes and Noble reading about them.
